Sharks beat Coyotes 3-2 in shootout

The way the San Jose Sharks have been playing of late, even a third-period deficit is no reason to get down.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic celebrated his 26th birthday by scoring the game-tying goal with 5 minutes left in the third period and Logan Couture got the only goal of the shootout to lead the Sharks to their fourth straight win, 3-2 over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night.
''We're a confident team,'' Couture said. ''We didn't sag on the bench, stayed up and kept going after them. We knew we were playing well. ... We're confident we can come back.''
A few wins will do that. San Jose had lost seven of nine games before this current streak, falling into ninth place in the Western Conference. But four wins over six days has vaulted them into sixth place.
Joe Pavelski scored for the fourth straight game for the Sharks and Antti Niemi made 27 saves as San Jose extended its longest winning streak since opening the season with seven consecutive wins. Niemi stopped Antoine Vermette in overtime and turned aside all three shootout attempts.
''I think the confidence is going up. From where it was at the low point, you can feel it going up,'' coach Todd McLellan said. ''A lot of good things were said, as soon as we go down. Guys stuck with the game plan for the most part.''
Boyd Gordon and Radim Vrbata scored for the Coyotes, who have lost eight of their past nine games to plummet in the Western Conference standings. Jason LaBarbera made 32 saves to lose his seventh straight decision to San Jose.
''We had the lead with five minutes to play. This has to be a win,'' captain Shane Doan said. ''Every time you lose it's a lost opportunity. We're running out of games to get points in. It's getting more and more desperate - we have to find better ways to win. We have to get more points than just one.''
Couture, who blocked a shot by Vrbata with San Jose short-handed in the closing seconds of overtime, started the shootout with a goal when he came in with speed and beat LaBarbera with a forehand. Niemi ended it with a pad save against Mikkel Boedker in the third round.
The Coyotes took the lead 33 seconds into the third period when Vrbata got inside of Tommy Wingels to receive a pass in the slot from Doan. Niemi stopped Vrbata's first attempt but had no chance on the rebound that put Phoenix ahead 2-1.
The game stood there until late in the period when Vlasic pushed in aggressively behind the net with the Sharks desperate for the tying goal. Pavelski put a shot on net from a bad angle and Vlasic knocked the rebound past LaBarbera for his second goal of the season.
''They're hard to play against,'' Vlasic said. ''We needed to throw pucks on net. I did that twice, Pavs did that and we got a goal. It was a good comeback for us.''
This was the second time in three games that Phoenix allowed a late goal to tie it and then lost. Minnesota rallied to tie the Coyotes in the final minute Wednesday before winning in overtime.
''It's frustrating now,'' Vrbata said. ''We have the lead and we can't keep it. We can't close it. We couldn't find a third (goal) to put it away. We could be 3-0 on this road trip and no one would be surprised. It hard when you only play Western Conference teams - you are giving them points and losing ground with each loss.''
It was a clean game with neither team wanting to give up a power play by being too aggressive for a penalty. There was only one penalty called in regulation, a double minor for high-sticking against Phoenix's Rob Klinkhammer on Justin Braun in the second period.
The Coyotes paid for the offensive zone penalty when Pavelski took a drop pass from Joe Thornton at the blue line and blasted a shot past LaBarbera early in the second period to match a career best with a goal in four straight games.
The Sharks generated plenty of scoring chances in the first period but still trailed 1-0 because LaBarbera came up big in the net and Gordon capitalized on Phoenix's best opportunity. After a scramble for the puck near the front of the net, Gordon got there and lifted a backhand into the net to end Niemi's scoreless stretch of more than 136 minutes.
NOTES: San Jose D Jason Demers was scratched after taking a hard hit Thursday against Detroit. ... Brent Burns, who played the last nine games at forward, moved back to defense and Adam Burish played wing on a line with Thornton and Marty Havlat. ... Phoenix D Keith Yandle played in his 400th career game.

Ireland Baldwin Can’t Stop Showing Off Model Figure

Ireland Baldwin recently announced she’s signed a modeling contract, but in case anyone missed the news, she’s now proving it through photos.
Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger’s 17-year-old daughter has taken to multiple branches of social media this month to show off her 6’2” fab figure. On Instagram there’s a selfie of the teen standing in her bathroom, donning just a cleavage-baring Nike sports bra and super-short spandex shorts. On Twitter, she’s got a shot of herself standing in her kitchen downing Cheerios while wearing nothing but (a different) sports bra on top. And just this week on her Tumblr account, Baldwin flaunted her toned bod in a super-sexy shot, standing at the ocean’s edge with wet hair in a skimpy bikini.
It’s no surprise the celebrity offspring turned out to be a classic (and tall!) beauty. Mom Basinger rose to fame in the ‘80s playing plenty of the “leggy blonde” roles in films like “9 1Ž2 Weeks,” “Blind Date,” and “The Marrying Man,” which, ironically, introduced her to the man she’d eventually wind up marrying, Alec Baldwin.

While she takes after her mother in the looks department, she takes after her father when it comes to oversharing on social media. Baldwin keeps his more than 1 million Twitter followers up to date on just about everything, from his confrontations with the paparazzi, to his battle with an American Airlines flight attendant, to the details of his wedding day when he married new wife Hilaria Thomas.

But we’ve got to wonder what Basinger and Baldwin think of their teen daughter sharing the skimpy shots (not to mention posting pics of herself smooching a gentleman caller)? With a future modeling career ahead, they’re probably going to have to prepare themselves for even more risqué shots … and Ireland, it’s pretty clear, doesn’t seem the least bit concerned.

15-Pound Baby Doing Well After Scary Birth

A new mom in England got the shock of her life when the shegave birth to her son George six weeks ago—and he came out weighing a whopping 15 pounds 7 ounces.

More from Shine: Graphic Births, Good for the Soul, in New Midwives Doc

“He’s a little miracle—well, a big miracle, really,” Jade King, who birthed George vaginally, told the BBC.

No one realized just how big George was until his head had emerged, at which point his shoulders got temporarily stuck and he went without oxygen for five minutes.

“There was about 20-odd doctors in the room, and that’s when it got really scary,” King recalled.

More on Yahoo!: Miracle Baby Born to Organ Transplant Patient

Once the baby was out, he was given a 10 percent chance of survival and transferred from Cheltenham to another hospital, in Bristol. He was kept there for four and a half weeks and then went home, and just received normal results from an MRI.

“It might just be that he’s a little big slow with his learning,” his mom added. “So hopefully it’s just minor little things.”

George has only gained a pound since his birth, and has been wearing clothes sized for a 3-to-6-month old from day one (his mom had to give away all the newborn onesies that were awaiting him at home). He is the second-biggest baby ever born vaginally in the UK, according to various reports; the larger baby weighed just an ounce more.

In George’s case, doctors were unsure of what caused his hugeness, the medical term for which is called macrosomia. But the condition is often caused by mom having had gestational diabetes during her pregnancy, according to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
In addition to diabetes, another risk to moms with big babies can be post-birth hemorrhaging, New York City-based midwife Miriam Schwarzschild told Yahoo! Shine. But women with twins carry around just as much weight, she added. For huge babies, she added, risks may include enlarged organs, a fractured clavicle, and, like in George's case, oxygen deprivation.

Both King and her doctors were shocked at George's size—which is "bizarre" to Schwarzschild. "You estimate the fetal weight, always," she said. "I mean, you didn't ever feel her or talk to her or measure her? That doesn't make any sense."
George with parents Jade and Ryan King. Photo: YouTube via BBCMeanwhile, the large babies themselves face a higher risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke later in life.

Though babies this huge are rare, they are certainly not unheard of—and, according to at least one recent study, inOregon, they are becoming even more commonplace. Oregon has seen at least two 14-pound-plus babies born every year since 2005. In 2012, in China, a 15.5-pound baby boy was born, via C-section, setting a countrywide record. A 19-pound baby was born via C-section in Indonesia in 2011. And, that same year in Texas, a 16-pound baby boy was born—sans C-section—and promptly nicknamed “Moose.”

According to the Guinness World Records, Ann Bates gave birth to the biggest newborn ever, in 1879 in Ohio, when her baby weighed in at a whopping 23 pounds, 12 ounces. He died within a day. But a 22-pound, 8-ounce baby born in Italy, in 1955, survived.

Fantasy Baseball: All-Value team, 2013

They say timing is everything. That might be giving "timing" a little bit too much credit. But at least in the case of fantasy baseball drafts, it's spot on. When 2013 comes to an end, you can count on this page to be top-heavy with players that not only had successful fantasy campaigns, but were also afterthoughts on draft day. With that in mind, here's an All-Value team for 2013 - again, it's all about the timing (ADP).
First Base - Chris Davis, Baltimore (Yahoo! ADP 160, Y! '12 rank 89): Players that can hit 30 home runs don't grow on trees, especially those that can also do it with a batting average above .250. Without question, Davis had some difficulty with the batting average aspect of things at times in Texas, but one shouldn't cement their opinions about a player when he is in his early 20s. Davis hit well above .300 during his minor league career and is sitting on a .258 mark (hardly a fantasy deal breaker) through 436 career MLB games, which includes his two-year slump in Texas. Sure, he strikes out a lot, but that certainly doesn't make him unique on fantasy cheat sheets. A middle-of-the-order hitter with Davis' power upside belongs in the same neighborhood (No. 122 ADP) as that of Ike Davis, another young first baseman who projects similarly.
[Baseball 2013 from Yahoo! Fantasy Sports: Join a league today!]
Second Base - Aaron Hill, Arizona (Yahoo! ADP 70, Y! '12 rank 26): Hill is the seventh second sacker off the board, on average, in Yahoo! live drafts. But he finished No. 2 in fantasy value at the position a year ago. So the assumption here is that most aren't fully buying into what he did in his first full season in Arizona. My question is, what part don't you believe? The 26 home runs? Well, he hit totals of 36 and 26 in back-to-back seasons in Toronto in '09 and '10. What about the .302 average? He hit .315 in his first 33 games with the Diamondbacks in '11, and he recorded three full seasons in Toronto with a batting average of .286 or better. As for the run production and steals, none of his '12 numbers were career highs. A .280/25/80/80/10 line in '13 is well within Hill's grasp, which means owners should consider moving him up about a round-and-a-half on their draft boards.
Third Base - Aramis Ramirez, Milwaukee (Yahoo! ADP 79, Y! '12 rank 23): Although consistency is king in our roto racket, Ramirez somehow manages to get the shaft. Let's review Ramirez's record: .289 or better in nine of past 12 seasons; 25-plus home runs 10 of past 12; 90-plus RBIs nine of past 12 ... we're talking Hall of Fame credentials, and he's still only 34 years old. Consider him at least 20 picks earlier than his current ADP, and also think about buying some extra insurance at the hot corner for the first couple months of the season - Ramirez has become notorious for his April/May dry spells. But once June comes around, you'll want to ride his bat for all it's worth.
Shortstop - Alcides Escobar, Kansas City (Yahoo! ADP 177, Y! '12 rank 126): While Escobar was going mostly undrafted last season, fantasy owners were busy paying top dollar (No. 44 ADP in '12) for shortstop Elvis Andrus. Yet, when the when the final numbers were counted for last year's campaign, it was Escobar out in front of Andrus in the Yahoo! rankings. If the .275 average, 30 steals and 80 runs that Andrus offers is so important to you, save yourself some cash and wait about 6-8 rounds later for Escobar.
A Pagan offering won't cost much on draft day (Getty)
Catcher - Ryan Doumit, Minnesota (Yahoo! ADP 221 , Y! '12 rank 249): In one-catcher leagues, Doumit is an ideal late-round target. At this point in his career, he's more of a DH/OF than a catcher, which is just the way you should like it - the less time in the line of fire behind the plate, the better. With a likely 450-plus at bats, Doumit has proven he can deliver a batting average north of .275 to go with double digit home runs and solid (for the position) run production. Ignore the ADP/Rank numbers next to Doumit's name, as they don't apply as well for catchers. Just recognize that Doumit was a top 10 fantasy catcher value last season that you can get, on average, as the No. 15 backstop in '13 drafts.
Outfield - Angel Pagan, San Francisco (Yahoo! ADP 168 , Y! '12 rank 82): Pagan is a career .281 hitter that has averaged 33 steals over the past three seasons and is coming off a year in which he set a career high in Runs (95) despite hitting out of the leadoff spot for the Giants in just 80 games. Expected to settle in at the top of San Francisco's batting order full-time this season, Pagan is a proven three-category helper in fantasy, one that should be going, based on his '12 numbers (that are definitely repeatable), much higher than where he's currently landing.
Outfield - Torii Hunter, Detroit (Yahoo! ADP 208 , Y! '12 rank 49): At 37 years of age, Hunter seems to be a clear victim of ageism among the fantasy community this spring. The guy is showing no seasons of deviating from the standard .280/20/80/80/10 fantasy lines that he's been churning out for the past dozens seasons. The underlying numbers do point to a reasonable amount of luck for Hunter in his top 50 Yahoo! finish last season, and hitting behind Mike Trout certainly didn't hurt. But a spot in front of Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, and following Austin Jackson isn't too shabby, either. So, while you should count on some regression for Hunter in '13, just know that he keeps himself in excellent condition and has landed near the top of a lineup that finished seventh in MLB in OPS last season.
Outfield - David Murphy, Texas (Yahoo! ADP 252 , Y! '12 rank 159): Murphy's Law in Texas for the past half decade has been .285/15/60/60/10. For most of that time, he's played the role of a left-handed platoon partner. But after posting a .845 OPS in 75 ABs against southpaws last season and given Josh Hamilton's defection, Murphy is in line to play a bigger role in the Rangers' outfield than ever before. He will likely lose 10-20 points off last season's average (.304) with a more steady diet of left-handed pitching, but he could also set career highs in every other fantasy category, which is a more than acceptable tradeoff for fantasy owners.
Starter - Marco Estrada, Milwaukee (Yahoo! ADP 175, Y! '12 rank 182): Among those with at least 120 IP last season, Estrada ranked third in K/BB (4.93), eighth in K/9 (9.30) and 16th in OBP Allowed (.285). In his final 102.1 IP of '12, Estrada delivered a 3.34 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 109 Ks, ranking as a top 30 fantasy starter from late June to season's end. He's currently the No. 47 starter taken on average in Y! drafts. Do the math, and recognize the bargain.
Closer - Glen Perkins, Minnesota (Yahoo! ADP 189, Y! '12 rank 136): For my money, Perkins is the safest (if there is such a thing at closer) cheap saves option on the board. He's going No. 22 among relievers in Yahoo! drafts, but after he settled in as the Twins closer, he was the sixth best ninth-inning stopper in fantasy over the second half of '12. He's a strike-throwing machine that doesn't have issues getting right-handed hitters out despite being a southpaw. Perkins struggled earlier in his career as a starter, but his ERA has settled in at 2.50 and he's getting better than a K per IP the last two seasons as a full-time reliever.

NATO Chief: Box-Office Downturn Due to Glut of R-Ratings

The box office's doldrums can be blamed on a lack of diversity, National Association of Theatre Owners President and CEO John Fithian told reporters Thursday.
In particular, Fithian said that a lack of family films and a glut of violent action movies contributed to sluggish ticket sales.
Through last weekend the domestic box office was down 12.9 percent to roughly $1.9 billion, according to Box Office Mojo.
"The diversity of the movie slate in first quarter was just not there," Fithian said.
"We had a lot of movies rated R that included a lot of violence," he added. "And those movies can sell, but not when that's all you've got."
That may be the case, but moviegoers have been able to resist the charms of big-budget confections that are more family-friendly like "Jack the Giant Slayer," which has grossed a lackluster $55 million stateside despite carrying a $195 million production budget.
Fithian said he was "pretty confident" about the rest of the year, but said that it would be difficult to match last spring's success, mainly because "The Hunger Games" proved to be such a blockbuster. He also pointed out that films like "The Lorax" and "The Vow" got last year off to a roaring start, while this one has kicked off with a whimper.
"It was the first quarter in 2012 that was out of control record breaking," he said.
However, with a slate of films that includes "Man of Steel" and "The Hangover Part III," Fithian said the box office should have some more life as the temperatures rise. He noted that last summer was actually down 2.5 percent from the previous year.
The box office may have a hard time matching 2012's blockbuster holiday season. The popularity of films like "The Hobbit" and "Skyfall" helped ring the year out on a festive note, with the box office up a massive 16 percent.

Transformers 4 Plot Unveiled by Michigan Film Office

Thanks to the Michigan Film Office, the plot synopsis for Michael Bay's "Transformers 4" was unveiled on Wednesday.
The story details -- involving "an ancient, powerful Transformer menace" and a group of scientists trying to harness the technological power from previous transforming aliens -- were slipped when announcing that the Paramount production was approved for a tax incentive to film in Detroit. A Michigan Film Office press release reads:
"As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon,' Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control – all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs. The epic adventure and battle between good and evil, freedom and enslavement ensues."
Also read: Michael Bay Casts Irish Unknown in 'Transformers 4,' Denies Reboot Rumors
Bay has been tight lipped about any plot details, other than being clear that the movie is not a reboot and it picks up four years after the events that took place in "Dark of the Moon."
With Shia LaBeouf out of the picture, Mark Wahlberg is playing the lead human role in the sequel, while Bay cast Irish (and mostly unknown) actor Jack Reynor in January.
"The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast," Bay wrote in the casting announcement. "This 'Transformers' will feel very different then the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy."
"Transformers 4" will be the third film in the franchise to shoot scenes in Detroit, making 2009's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" the only exception. The latest production was awarded a $20 million incentive on nearly $82 million projected in-state expenditures.
The franchise has grossed over $2.6 billion at the global box office.

Jane Got A Gun Loses Director; Lynne Ramsay Walks Away From Western With Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman's latest picture was supposed to start shooting Tuesday, but they've lost something important – the director.
Lynne Ramsay, the British filmmaker who impressed arthouse audiences with "We Need To Talk About Kevin" and "Morvern Callar," has reportedly walked off her latest project, "Jane Got A Gun." The Western was to begin photography in Santa Fe, but director Ramsay, who helped develop the project, never reported to set, and producers are now scrambling to find a replacement.
"Jane Got A Gun," which tells the story of a woman who turns to her former lover for help when a gang of outlaws storms her farm to take revenge on her husband, was originally set to star Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, and Joel Edgerton. However, a week before shooting was scheduled to start, Fassbender left the cast, supposedly due to conflicts brought on by his role in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Jude Law quickly came on board, but now, with Ramsay out of the picture, "Jane" seems to be in limbo.
While Ramsay has yet to release a statement about her departure, producer Scott Steindorff has spoken to the press, and he's not happy. "I have millions of dollars invested, we’re ready to shoot, we have a great script, crew and cast," Steindorff said. "I’m shocked and so disappointed someone would do this to 150 crew members who devoted so much time, energy, commitment and loyalty to a project, and then have the director not show up. It is insane somebody would do this to other people. I feel more for the crew and their families, but we are keeping the show going on, directors are flying in, and a replacement is imminent."
While Steindorff seems eager to keep to project on schedule, finding a director willing to step in overnight on a project tailored to another filmmaker's tastes should be a tall order. The new director would presumably also have to meet the approval of Ms. Portman, who in addition to playing the leading role is also a co-producer on "Jane Got A Gun" with Steindorff.

Fred: Neymar should stay in Brazil

Fluminense striker Fred believes compatriot Neymar should remain in Brazil amid the endless speculation linking him with a move abroad.

The 21-year-old is one of the most sought-after talents in world football and has reportedly courted the interest of European giantsBayern Munich and Barcelona, the latter of which is understood to be the front-runner to land the star.

However, the 29-year-old says Neymar should refuse the allure of playing in Europe by staying local in a bid to improve the domestic game.

"We Brazilians have to thank god to have a player like him in Brazil. We have to strengthen the chorus of support to get him to stay here, but in the end he will decide," he told reporters at a press conference in Geneva.

"Brazilian football is at a very high level and it will help the country with the 2014 World Cup if our stars stayed close to home."

Fred is expected to partner the Santos star in attack for Selecao's friendly with Italy on Thursday, which is followed by a clash with Russia five days later.

Selena Gomez on Racy Spring Breakers Role

Selena Gomez on Racy Spring Breakers Role: It Was My Mom's Idea,
Selena Gomez felt fearless going into filming for upcoming flick Spring Breakers, she recently told reporters -- especially since her mom was one of her biggest advocates for doing the racy film.
"I wasn't scared. I definitely wanted to do this," she told reporters of deciding to shed her wholesome Disney image. "I thought it would be a great opportunity for me, and Harmony [Korine, the director] explained the movie perfectly and that's the reason why [I chose to do the film]."
PHOTOS: Selena Gomez at the Spring Breakers premiere
"I didn't really know what I was getting myself into but while we were there, it was incredible to create and to play and it was liberating," she continued at the Saturday, March 16 press junket.
The 20-year-old actress joined a star-studded cast -- including fellow Disney alum Vanessa HudgensPretty Little Liars actress Ashley Benson and Benson's rumored beau James Franco -- to tell the story of four girls who find themselves in jail after robbing restaurant to fund their spring break shenanigans.
PHOTOS: Selena's sexy red carpet style
But Gomez told E! News that despite any uncertainty she had initially, her mother was always one of her biggest supporters.
"She loves this kind of vibe," she said. "She's super into indie movies and indie directors … I think it was more of her pushing me and being like, you should go for it."
One of the costars' greatest fears going into film, however? Stripping down to nothing but a neon-colored bikini, she said.
PHOTOS: Selena and Justin back on the PDA
"I think it added a sense of vulnerability to the characters too when you see them in jail in that state, and a bikini adds a whole other element because they are girls and they are exposed and they should be cold and that's not really a comfortable setting," she told reporters.

Report: Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough Call It Quits

Things could get awkward the next time Julianne Hough runs into Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet.
The 24-year-old "Safe Haven" star and the host of E!'s awards season coverage and Fox's "American Idol" have split after more than two years together, according to People.
The magazine, which cites multiple unnamed sources, reports that the two are "taking a break and are living apart," and that their busy schedules drove them apart.
However, the two are reportedly in "regular contact and remain friends."
In addition to his other gigs, Seacrest, 38, is also host of a weekday morning radio show and a weekly countdown radio show, and serves as executive producer of TV series such as "Keeping up With the Kardashians." Former "Dancing With the Stars" pro Hough has starred in movies like "Footloose" and "Rock of Ages" since leaving the dance competition show in 2009.
News of the breakup ends what has not been a great week for Hough. Over the weekend, she had$100,00 worth of jewelry that Seacrest had given her stolen from her car while it was parked at a friend's house. Then on Wednesday, the actress underwent a root canal surgery.
Think her luck will change soon?

Trout homers for Angels in win over WSox

Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and the Los Angeles Angels showed just how potent they can be.
But manager Mike Scioscia knows it's the pitching that will determine how far this ballclub goes.
Trout homered and scored three runs, Howie Kendrick and Pujols each had two hits Thursday and the Angels roughed up John Danksin a 12-4 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Angels left-hander Jason Vargas, who made his third start, allowed two hits and a run in 4 2-3 innings.
''If we pitch we're going to be fine,'' Scioscia said. ''We've got to keep building from this.''
Trout hit his first spring training homer off Chicago starter John Danks, a solo shot that came within a few feet of leaving the stadium.
The AL's Rookie of the Year went 2 for 3 and had two RBIs. Kendrick was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Pujols went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Trout, who hit 30 homers in 2012, lifted his spring average to .407.
''It's the first time we've seen him in the spring,'' Scioscia said. ''It's safe to say that he's seeing the ball well and he's playing at a high level already.''
Trout missed much of camp a year ago and was called up to the Angels in late April.
Danks is coming off left-shoulder surgery in August. He had his second consecutive rough outing. He allowed seven hits and six earned runs in 3 1-3 innings Thursday after giving up seven hits and three earned runs in 2 1-3 innings against Arizona March 9, his previous start.
White Sox's manager Robin Ventura said that he was not counting out Danks being ready for opening day.
''He's a work in progress,'' Ventura said. ''The good news is that he's not hurting. He didn't have the velocity today.''
The White Sox signed Danks to a 5-year, $65-million contract prior to the 2012 season with the intention he would anchor the rotation after ace Mark Buehrle left through free agency to Miami.
Danks made only nine starts in 2012, going 3-4 with a 5.70 ERA before being shut down.
With the emergence of Chris Sale and the return to health of Jake Peavy, Danks is now slated toward the middle of Chicago's rotation once he gets healthy.
''The results didn't show it, but this was one of my better outings,'' Danks said. ''It's a small start in the right direction. I need to see lineups like this. I'm hoping to see progress each time and I can't do that unless I'm seeing big league hitters.
''We're at the mercy of my shoulder, really,'' he said. ''I'm going to go out and keep doing what I'm doing. Hopefully we'll start to see better results starting with the next time.''
Vargas gave up his run in the third when Blake Tekotte tripled in Tyler Flowers, who reached on a walk. Scioscia lifted Vargas with two out in the fifth after Flowers hit a long double off the wall in center field.
Vargas said he mixed up his pitches more than in his previous outing, when he allowed eight hits and four runs in five innings March 9 vs. Colorado.
''To have the secondary stuff working and to see them swinging and missing is good,'' Vargas said. ''Last time I was leaving (pitches) up and getting hammered.''
Chicago's Dewayne Wise hit his second homer, off Angels' reliever Scott Downs in the sixth.

Gerard Butler Admits to Sleeping With Brandi Glanville: ‘I Didn’t Know She Was Going to F**king Tell People’

If there's one thing we know about Brandi Glanville, it's that she's not good at keeping secrets.
After the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star kissed and told last year that she had slept with Gerard Butler (and rated his skills "11 out of 10"), she was publicly embarrassed when he later responded, "Who is Brandi Glanville?" in response to a question about the roll in the hay by a paparazzo.
But now, Butler is clearing up the confusion. During an interview with Howard Stern on Monday morning, the "Olympus Has Fallen" actor explained that he had met Glanville at a beach party and the two "had a little fun" one afternoon … but he never bothered to learn her last name.
Fast forward to January 2012, "I'm walking down the street and this pap … says 'Brandi Glanville says you’re great in bed!'" Butler told Stern. "And you know what I said: 'Who's Brandi Glanville?' because one, I didn’t know her last name," he added laughing, "and two, I didn’t know she was a celebrity and I didn’t know she was going to f**king tell people about it!"
After his gaffe, Butler, 43, admits he felt bad because he insulted the single mother of two when he admitted he had no clue who she was. "Then I worked it out and was like, 'Oh, that's who that is' and I called and said 'I'm not very happy you did that' because there are certain things you keep a little private. 'I'm sorry I said I didn’t know who you were,'" he also recalled telling Glanville "because she was in tears."
Butler also dished on his new girlfriend, model/actress Madalina Ghenea. "I'm in deep-like," he told Stern. "She's amazing."

Older Friends Sharing Time Are Sharing Kisses As Well

DEAR ABBY: I am a semi-retired widow in my 60s. A few months ago I started spending time with a man I work with. We would see each other once or twice a month, strictly as friends. Our "dates" ended with a platonic hug.
About a month ago, a hug turned into an embrace. A week later, the embrace became a passionate kiss. Since then, whenever we get together -- now once or twice a week -- we spend a good portion of our time together "making out." We love the way each other kisses.
The problem is, we're still just friends. There is no desire on the part of either of us to take the relationship up a notch. What do we do? We should not be kissing a friend the way we do, but we can't seem to stop.
We're not hurting anyone. We have tried meeting only in public places, but there is still the goodnight kiss. I never thought I'd need this kind of advice at my age. Must we stop spending time together? -- FLABBERGASTED IN WISCONSIN
DEAR FLABBERGASTED: Not in my opinion. I assume you're both eligible. This is the way relationships develop, and you would be foolish not to see where it leads. As of now, a kiss is still a kiss. Let me hear from you in a month.

DEAR ABBY: I am writing on behalf of hairstylists. We are busy people. Our time is money. We rarely even stop for lunch. Clients who come in talking on their cellphones are a real problem for us because they slow us down.
I have had clients jump up from my chair to answer their cellphone in the middle of a haircut -- hair flying everywhere. I have had to do a haircut around a cellphone, with the client switching the phone from ear to ear! These are not even important calls -- just casual conversations.
The lack of courtesy is ridiculous, and it seems to be getting worse. I would like people who do this to think twice before subjecting their stylist to it. They should put their phones on silent, get their hair cut or colored, and talk on their own time! -- FED UP IN NEBRASKA
DEAR FED UP: You are not helpless. This is happening because you have allowed it. If you can't find the gumption to tell your customers you don't want them using their cellphones while they're in your chair, then post a sign on your mirror that reads "Cellphones Not Allowed."
DEAR ABBY: I am a new bride. I love my husband very much, but I've encountered a problem I don't know how to handle. My husband and I were together for six years before we got married and were engaged for three. We eloped to Las Vegas (it wasn't planned) and had a "proper" celebration with friends and family later.
My husband makes comments that suggest I dragged him and tricked him into marrying me. I know he's only kidding, but it's very hurtful. I don't know how to let him know his comments really hurt my feelings. It makes me feel like he's ashamed of our marriage. -- NEWLYWED IN CALIFORNIA
DEAR NEWLYWED: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. The next time your husband does it, speak up. Explain that his attempts at humor are hurtful, not to mention insulting. Ask him if he regrets marrying you. (If the answer is yes, it's important that you know it now.) Clear communication is the key to a strong marriage, and so is respect for one's partner, which he appears to be lacking.

Danielle Fishel on Maxim April 2013 -- Maxim
Danielle Fishel seems to be getting hotter with age!
The former "Boy Meets World" star (soon-to-be "Girl Meets World" bombshell) graces the cover of Maxim's April issue in lingerie and opened up to the mag about her "BMW" heydays - including whether she and co-star Ben Savage were ever an off-screen item.

"No! That [dating] rumor was entirely my fault because I once said, on 'The Tyra Banks Show,' that Ben and I went on a date, and that turned into 'Danielle and Ben dated,'" she explained. "We went on one date, when I was about 15, and by the time the dinner was over we realized mutually that we were more like family than lovers."

While Ben and Danielle were not a match, the 31-year-old beauty did find her soulmate (she tutored him in math while pursuing her bachelor's degree) and the two got engaged last year.
The actress said the first thing she noticed about her fiancé was a "Mortal Kombat" tattoo he has on his calf - an ode to the popular video game of the '90s.
"I'm not a huge tattoo person, but I loved it," she said, adding that she has two tattoos - both of which she wishes she could remove.

"I would get [them] laser-removed but I'm afraid that they'll look weird," she said. "I have one on the back of my neck, and I have a tramp stamp."

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, if the "Girl Meets World" pilot - which begins 10 years after the events of "Boy Meets World," with Topanga (Danielle) and Cory (Ben Savage) married with kids - is picked up, the series could land on Disney Channel's 2013-14 schedule.
